      The short version: We collect almost nothing. No accounts, no personal data stored, no tracking without consent. Just play the game.
    

Who We Are

Ahoy! is a free party game created by Ged Hughes ("we", "us", "our"). We're based in the United Kingdom.

What We Collect

During gameplay:

Nickname: The name you enter to play. This is only stored temporarily in memory while your game session is active, then deleted.
Game actions: Your answers and votes during a game. These exist only for the duration of the game session.

We do NOT collect:

Email addresses (unless you voluntarily sign up for launch notifications)
Phone numbers
Location data
Device identifiers
Any account or login information (there are no accounts)

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use Ahoy! (e.g., which games are popular, how long sessions last). This is:

Opt-in only: Analytics are disabled by default. They only activate if you click "Accept" on the cookie consent banner.
Anonymous: We don't collect personal identifiers. Google Analytics uses cookies to track aggregate usage patterns.

You can decline analytics and still use Ahoy! with full functionality.

Email Newsletter

If you choose to sign up for launch notifications, your email is stored by Buttondown (our email service). You can unsubscribe anytime via the link in any email. We'll only email you about Ahoy! updates — no spam, no selling your email to third parties.

Data Retention

Game data: Deleted immediately when a game ends or all players disconnect.
Analytics: Retained by Google per their standard policies (typically 14-26 months).
Email list: Until you unsubscribe.

Children's Privacy

Ahoy! is rated PG-15 due to game content that may include mild adult humour. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since we don't require accounts or collect personal data during gameplay, children can play without providing any personal information.

Third-Party Services

We use:

Google Analytics — usage analytics (with consent)
Buttondown — email newsletter (if you sign up)

Each service has their own privacy policy governing data they collect.

Your Rights

Since we don't store personal data, there's usually nothing to request. However, if you've signed up for our email list and want your data deleted, contact us and we'll remove you promptly.

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date. For major changes, we may also notify email subscribers.
